I was driving down the road recently, reflecting, about past present and future things to come. I reminded myself of several of life’s situations I’ve found myself in. One thought keeps returning, “a friend in need is a friend indeed". I’ve always thought of this cliché as a truth as in when you’re down and out, the cream rises to the top and like another saying goes; you find out who your friends are.
Several years ago, I had a friend in a situation that seemed hopeless. Over months and years we discussed it, planed scenarios for different outcomes, and even prayed together. Eventually the crisis passed.
When we are faced with a situation that seems hopeless we all tend to reach out to God, Jesus, friends and close family members, often without hesitation. But sometimes, after the ‘crisis’ has passed we sometimes lose contact with that person or even God for many reasons. Maybe it’s because we think we let them too close to us or maybe we just don’t want to be reminded of the pain we once felt during that difficult period. Sometimes when you’re the friend indeed, you’re suddenly out of the picture once your comfort is no longer needed. I don’t know if you’ve been that guy or girl but when you’re suddenly out of the picture it makes you feel used, not needed and maybe even mad or resentful.
I said all of this to say; imagine how Christ must feel. Fortunately for us, he is much more forgiving. Christ is your friend indeed.
